Abstract

In this issue, the effect of gas heat treatment ambient at the temperature of 950C for 8hours using the gases NH3 or CH4 and using  the gases NH3 and CH4 for (4+4)hours of the distribution of the doping elements on Titanium alloys BT9 was studied. Oxide formation at the different treatment ambient as a reason of gas-phase oxygen distribution to high depths in the samples was discovered. And its concentration in the two phases α and β  was almost the same, while the concentrations of C, Fe, Si  in the phases α and β was found to be agree with them in the samples before the treatment and the concentration of Mo between the little grains of phases α and β increases, [Moα]>[Moβ] from one to three times at the whole samples size, even six times at the surface layer with 60µm thickness, and the concentration of Al between the little grains of phases α and β increases, [Alβ]>[Alα] from one to two times at the surface layer with 40µm thickness. In addition to formation of inserted solid solutions of Nitrogen (TiN, Ti2N) after the Nitriding and Nitrocarburizing of the surface layer with (30-80)µm thickness. The micro hardness of the surface layer using Vickers method has been measured, and it was found to be in the range (410-470)HV0.05 . Finally, to be sure of the results, the phases and the Microstrucrure using the mining microscope and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) was studied.
