Abstract

Reinforced concrete structures sometimes need to strength their structural elements to suit different and new uses of structures, and to provide the safety of users. Reinforced concrete beams are among the most important components of the construction. One of the most commonly used strengthening techniques for reinforced concrete beams is RC jacketing. It increases strength, stiffness and overall enhancement of the structural performance. Shear stress is introduced at the interface between the old (beam) and the new (jacket) concrete, and it affects the behavior of the composite element.

In this paper, an analytical procedure is conducted on reinforced concrete jacketed beams using ANSYS software to determinate the magnitude and distribution of the interfacial shear stress. This study presents that the distribution of interfacial shear stress is parabolic with maximum values at the supports and minimum values at the mid span where τ equals 0.00 MPa.
