The Effectiveness of Teaching Program to Smith's Strategy for Development of The Historical Thinking skills Experimental Study on a Sample of First Secondary Grade Students in the Province of Latakia

Abstract

The study aimed at detecting the effectiveness of a program of teaching to Smith's strategy in the development of historical thinking skills to first secondary grade students in selected units from history book for first secondary grade of education in the Syrian Arab Republic. The study sample consisted of 183 students from the first grade students in the secondary schools of the Directorate of Education in the province of Latakia for the academic year 2012/2013, and the study sample were distributed to four classes in two chosen schools, the experimental group consisted of 92 male and female students, and the control group of 91 male and female students, and to achieve the objectives of the study, a list consisted of historical thinking skills was derived and a test of historical thinking skills was designed and directed to the study sample. The teaching program has been prepared to Smith's strategy, .Pre and post Test of the historical thinking skills has been on the study sample, where the experimental group studied the selected unit according to Smith's strategy and the control group studied the usual way and the study has shown the following results:development of historical thinking skills among students due to the method of teaching in the post-test is in favor of the experimental group.
