Abstract

The current study aimed at determining the educational problems resulting from the Syrian crisis related to (the school administration, pupils, teachers, and the school material environment) at Cycle One schools. It also aimed at identifying the role of the educational supervisor’s role in overcoming these problems and identifying solutions and suggestions to face these problems from the standpoint of the principals of these schools. The study sample consisted of (32) male and female principals of Cycle One schools in Lattakia City. As tools of the research, the researcher used interviewing and questionnaire, which are designed by her and edited by a group of specialists. The study found out that the most significant educational problems arising from the Syrian crisis at Cycle One schools are: the increase of failure rates among students, the incapability of newly-arriving pupils to adapt to the new school environment, the increase of behavioral problems among students, the deterioration of teachers' performance level, the lack of extracurricular activities, the poor communication between the school and parents, and the shortage of the necessary material equipment inside the classrooms. The findings showed that the extent of the educational supervisor’s role in overcoming the educational problems caused by the Syrian crisis had been moderate. They also showed that the differences among the means of principals’ scores in accordance with the variables of sex, educational qualification, and experience based on the questionnaire are not statistically significant.
