Abstract

This research aims at investigating the extent to which the general criteria of the book
Al-qutayrat as-sawda  in Learning Arabic have been met. It also aims at investigating the extent to which the Arabic and Islamic cultural trends are present in the reading passages in the studied book as well as the way they are dealt with.

The researcher has used the qualitative method in analyzing the content and has chosen purposive sampling containing 10 reading passages in seven units from the book. In addition, the researcher has utilized the content analysis questionnaire to be used as an instrument to carry out the research, the questionnaire contains seven major analytical categories encompassing the following key areas: the Arabic and Islamic historical aspects, the Arabic and Islamic culture, daily situations, world culture, the Holy Quran and Prophetic traditions and Christianity, and modern lifestyle and national, religious and world days.

The researcher highlights the significance of the study, its goals, procedures and findings.

Moreover, the researcher, through analysis, has shown that the cultural aspect is strongly attached to the other linguistic and educational aspects. The findings are then discussed.

The main goal of the study is to make sure that books specialized in teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages suit the level of all learners in order to achieve the linguistic and cultural competence, which will enable them to communicate with native speakers of Arabic in all fields.
