Study and simulation of solar pumping for Nd: YAG laser using ZEMAX program

Abstract

The research includes studying the methods of focusing and collecting solar radiation to obtain the appropriate optical pumping energy for the Nd: YAG laser. A solar concentrating system consisting of a flat mirror with an area of ​​1 m2 and assembled in a parabolic shape with a diameter of 1.8 m was adopted, in order to focus the solar radiation on the active substance of the laser, and with this process we reached a focusing efficiency of 89%. The proposed system has been modeled and simulated by two methods of pumping (side and end) for the Nd: YAG rod by using Zemax program and comparing their efficiencies, the rod's absorption efficiency of the concentrated effective pumping energy was 80% in the end pumping system, while it reached 63% in the side pumping system.
