The Impact of Task Conflict on the Effectiveness of Work Teams "A Field Study on Private Hospitals in Damascus Governorate"

Abstract

         The research aimed to study the relationship between task conflict on the one hand, and the effectiveness of work teams in private hospitals in Damascus governorate on the other, by adopting three basic dimensions of work teams (interaction and participation- open communication- team performance). Since the researcher distributed a questionnaire to a sample of (240) employees in the studied hospitals, (220) response were received, and(210) questionnaires were valid for analysis. To test the relationship, the researcher used the Student's T test for one sample, as well as the Pearson correlation coefficient.

      The research found a high level to each of (task conflict- interaction and participation - open communication), while a low level of team performance in the studied hospitals. The research also found that there is a significant relationship between task conflict and the effectiveness of work teams, and thus there is a significant effect of task conflict on the effectiveness of work teams in the studied hospitals. The research concluded with a set of recommendations related to the need to take advantage of conflicts that arise between members of work teams and manage them positively, in addition to encouraging team members to exchange information, experiences and various knowledge.
