Stroke affects all life aspects including physiological and psychological status of the patients. Post stroke depression and anxiety are common among post stroke survivors and they lead to prolonged morbidity and hospitalization and delay the recovery process. Therefore the present descriptive study aimed to assess the prevalence of post stroke depression and anxiety and their influencing causes among elderly patients after stroke. Study results revealed that various levels of depression occurred among 58% of the study subjects and both of older age and diabetes mellitus were the influencing causes. Moreover anxiety was found  in 60% of the study subjects Vs 40 % got minimal anxiety and both of the older age and presence of medical complications were the influencing causes. The study recommended that the health team should assess the psychological state of patients during the routine health assessment, training the medical and nursing staff and raise their  awareness about the importance of psychological complications following stroke and their negative impact on patients’ recovery and restoration of their functional role
