Evaluation of Efficiency of The Self-Cured Soft Lining Materials in Recontouring the Vestibular Surface of the Upper Complete Denture Functionally “ In Vivo Study “
Abstract
Background : Making the removable denture has been a big challenge for dentists and the complete edentulous patients, that It is still faces a lot of problems which cause failure to some patients if we do not find the suitable solutions especially the aesthetics and functional sides. Aim : A Comparative study between the direct method in recountouring the vestibular surface of the complete denture functionally by using the self –cured soft lining material and the indirect method by using the Soften modeling impression compound through its effect on the retention and the ability to chew or patient's comfort while using dentures adjusted in both methods.
Materials and Methods : The study consisted 20 maxillary denture –in this study participated 20 edentulous patients in removable prosthodontics department ,Tishreen university who complained of esthetics dissatisfaction regarding dentures . each participant used his/her denture in two situations to recontouring the vestibular surface of denture functionally (direct method using the self-cured soft lining material and indirect method using modeling plastic impression compound ) and each one was worn for six weeks . Then , the patient's satisfaction was evaluated at the end of this period . to evaluate his/her satisfaction with the denture used by him/her. Results: No significant differences were detected between both the direct and the indirect in functional recontouring regarding denture retention and the ability to chew or comfort and general satisfaction .
Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study , the soft self-cured permanent lining material used by direct method in recontouring the vestibular surface of complete denture presents the same level of patient's satisfaction with adjusted dentures in a conventional method ,Therefore , it can be applied as a functional conditioning material for fully –edentulous patients to improve the support of the orofacial muscle structures.
