A study of some biological effects of a locally produced creatine-containing sports food supplement
Abstract
This research aims to study a locally produced food supplement that contains creatine
monohydrate, and to study the effect of taking it for 8 weeks on muscular parameters and signs of clinical, blood and urinary health among athletes. High-performance liquid chromatography and UV_VIS detection were used to determine the amount of creatine in the studied samples, and the results were in accordance with the requirements of the US Pharmacopoeia. The clinical study included 10 apparently healthy athletes who did not suffer from any chronic diseases, did not take any medications or nutritional supplements during the short period of time preceding the start of the study, and were not smokers. They were divided into two groups, the creatine group, which included 5 athletes, and they were compared With a group of controls of similar age, gender, weight and height, who were 5 athletes as well. Participants in this study were subjected to a special diet and exercise regimen. Circumferences of several parts of the body were measured, and blood and urine samples were analyzed to assess metabolic, hepatic and renal functions. No statistically significant differences were found in all blood and urine markers for both groups (P>0.05), while there were statistical differences in measuring the circumference of the forearm muscle, the values of HDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the control group, and measuring the circumference of each of the forearm, ulna and shoulder muscles, And the value of hepatic aspartate aminotransferase in the creatine group (P<0.05).
