Abstract

Chief Nursing Officers play an important role in providing ongoing clinical leadership and accountability for quality care and quality improvement efforts. Therefore, this leadership is critical to achieving high-quality nursing outcomes, and therefore enhancing clinical leadership among front-line nurses is critical due to its potential impact on patient outcomes and experiences, team performance outcomes, nurse job satisfaction and retention, and the quality and effectiveness of nursing care. Therefore, the aim of this research was to evaluate the level of clinical leadership practices in the clinical environment among heads of nursing divisions. This research was conducted at Tishreen University Hospital and the National Hospital in the city of Lattakia on a sample of 40 nursing department heads. The results of the research showed that the level of clinical leadership practices of the nursing department heads was high. It also showed that all aspects of clinical leadership were at a high level, except for the axis of establishing a shared vision, which came at middle level. Therefore, the research recommends conducting training programs for heads of nursing divisions in order to improve their clinical leadership practices with regard to establishing a common vision among the work team, and conducting further studies and research on clinical leadership on larger samples.
