La conception du temps chez Aristote: et Les critiques plotinienne/augustiniennes.
Abstract
La physique d’Aristote a joué et joue en permanence un rôle très important dans l’histoire de la philosophie. Dans cette œuvre majeure, Aristote étudie entre autres le temps qu’il définit comme « le nombre d’un mouvement selon l’antérieur et le postérieur ». Cette définition est restée dominante sur la pensée philosophique jusque l’arrivée d’Augustin au IV siècle. Il a reposé la question du temps en donnant une explication très importante qui a poussé le philosophe allemande Husserl dans l’introduction de son livre « Leçons pour une phénoménologie de la conscience intime du temps » à inviter chaque chercheur intéressé par la question du temps à étudier à fond les chapitres 13-28 du livre XIe des Confessions.
Dans le présent article, nous analyserons cette définition en cherchant à déterminer la nature du rapport entre le temps et le mouvement selon Aristote. Nous essayerons de préciser dans quelle condition le temps peut-il être considéré comme la mesure du mouvement et jusqu’à quel point est-il possible de démontrer l’inverse!
Nous étudierons également les critiques de Plotin et Augustin de la théorie aristotélicienne. Nous nous y intéresserons dans le but de savoir si le temps aristotélicien, considéré principalement comme catégorie objective, devient catégorie subjective d’une part, et d’autre part, de déterminer jusqu’à quel point il est possible de parler d’une véritable originalité dans l’analyse d’Augustin sur la question du temps.
