Abstract

This research seeks to attempt to provide a critical view of aesthetic values. It does not claim the theoretical bases, even though they are close to them. This attempt confines its attention to studying the term 'tragedy' as an aesthetic value.

The research followed the descriptive approach as a procedural starting point to aid it in extrapolating the critical aesthetic views that it dealt with, and then demonstrated, using the observation, analysis and discussion, the proposals of aesthetic critics who dealt with the concept of tragedy. It showed the difference between tragedy and torment as well as the difference between tragedy and tragedy; moreover, it clarified the elements of tragedy, and finally the relationship between tragedy and arts. It illustrated examples of Arabic poetry that it took as models for study to confirm its view. It came out with observations, the most important of which are that tragedyism and tragedy are two correlative things, similar to the correlative between epicism and epic, and lyricism and poem.
