Abstract

The research aims to measure the degree of professional development towards the use of modern evaluation methods among fourth-grade teachers from the point of view of teachers and principals of first-year schools in the city of Latakia, where the researcher built two tools: They are: a questionnaire directed at fourth-grade teachers, and the second is a semi-directed interview. Directed to principals of first-year schools in the city of Latakia, the results of the research showed a high degree of professional development among fourth-grade teachers towards using modern evaluation methods, while the school principals’ evaluation of the degree of professional development among the sample members came with an average rating, and that the most important obstacles they face are represented by: The numbers of learners in the classrooms and the lack of educational aids. The results also indicated that there are no statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.05 between the average scores of the sample members on the questionnaire according to the variables (academic qualification - number of years of experience).
