Abstract

The current research aims to build and calibration a question bank for mathematics in the fifth grade using item response theory. To achieve this, five achievement tests were designed, each consisting of (25) items in the five study units in mathematics. Then the tests were applied to a sample of (500) male and female students in the fifth grade, after verifying the characteristics of items response theory. The results showed that we obtained a bank consisting of (96) items after deleting the inappropriate items within the suitability limits. The minimum ability was (-1.53) and the maximum was (1.76) with an average difficulty of zero and a standard deviation of (0.96), noting that all values are estimated in the logit unit. In light of the research results, it was proposed to adopt the included question bank to develop questions for mathematics in the fifth grade. The research also suggested building question banks for all subjects based on the item response theory.
