A Comparative study of changes of some blood Parameters on complete blood count in smokers and non-smokers
Abstract
Tobacco cigarette smoking is one of causes of cardiovascular diseases , including coronary artery disease(CAD) , myocardial infarction(MI) , and stroke . It has been proven that the occurrence of these disorders in smokers is caused by abnormalities at Hemodynamic disorder in blood rheology ,infection and inflammation , oxidative stress , and alterations of antithrombotic and fibrinolysis system . however , the accurate of mechanisms of these disorders resulted from smoking cigarettes are still unknown. Therefore, the present study aims to assess the extent of adverse effects of cigarette smoking on three components of the complete blood count (CBC) test: Red Blood Cells (RBC), Hemoglobin(Hb) and Hematocrit(HTC). Moreover, the study investigates the relationship between smokers age and effects of smoking , effects of smoking amount (number of cigarettes smoked per day) on those three studied parameters. 355 subjects participated in this study including males and females with age over 17 years old Blood samples were taken from the participants and divided in two groups, 50 blood samples from nonsmoker participants and 305 from smoker participants. Blood sampling and (CBC) test were conducted using MEDONIC device COANTUS device at Tishreen University Hospital. The results of this research showed that the smokers had significantly higher levels of (RBC) and (Hb) and (HTC) comparing by nonsmokers (p≤0.05). Additionally, the results showed significant relation between the smoking amount and the extent of its effects on the studied components.
