Abstract
The study included 30 patients who had undergone ECCE-PCIOL surgery at Al- Assad University Hospital to study the effect of topical diclofenac sodium 0.1% as alternative to topical dexamethason phosphate 0.1% for treatment of postoperative inflammation. The patients were equally divided. Both groups were similar in baseline parameters. Severity of anterior chamber reaction (AC-reaction), corneal oedema, conjunctival injection and IOP were evaluated and compared on days 1, 3, 7, 21 and 42. The two groups did not differ statistically in treatment effect for any of the variables (p<0.05). No significant complication was seen in the two groups. Topical diclofenac is as effective as topical dexamethason and can be used safely in routin postoperative treatment following uncomplicated surgery.
