Abstract

Background:  According to some international studies, patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and increased left atrial volume index (LAVI) have worse long-term prognosis.
Aim & Objective: To evaluate LAVI as a predictor of major cardiovascular events (MCE) in patients with ACS.
Materials& Methods:  Prospective cohort of 171 patients diagnosed with ACS and  according to LAVI, two groups were categorized: normal LAVI (≤ 34 mL/m²) and increased LAVI (> 34 mL/m²).

Both groups were compared regarding clinical and echocardiographic characteristics
Results: we noticed that patient with increased LAVI were older than normal LAVI with a statistically significance P-value<0.05.the number of patient with Diabetes was bigger in the group of increased LAVI a statistically significance P-value<0.05.the type of acute coronary syndrome was different and statistically significant,we found that STEMI patients number was greater in the group of increased LAVI.
the major adverse cardiovascular events including death, cardiac shock, pulmonary edema and cardiac arrhythmias were greater in the group of increased LAVI with a statistically significance P-value<0.05.

Conclusion:  Increased LAVI is an important predictor of MCE.
