The addiction (concept, causes, prevention factors) From the point of view of a sample of university housing students at Tishreen University
Abstract
The study is aimed at discovering the concept of addiction in a Sample of students at Tishreen University, and recognizing the differences among them due sex variable, using a questionnaire designed for this purpose. The research was applied to (62) students for the academic year ( 2020- 2021) divided on (27) males and (35) females. The stability of the questionnaire was verified using the Alpha Cronbach method and the split-half on an exploratory sample of 30 students, from outside the research sample. To reach the search results, percentages, arithmetic averages, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Student's t-test were used.
The results showed that there were no significant differences between male and female students in their view of the addiction, and the concept of addiction among the sample members was that it was a slow suicide and that there were clear indications that the individual abused, as well as the perception of the sample members that it is possible to recover from addiction and sufficient information about drugs. With regard to the factors leading to addiction, most of the sample members agreed that the most important cause of addiction is lack of awareness of the dangers of drugs, then bad companions, and in the same rank, is the ease of obtaining the substance. With regard to the view of the addict, the results came as follows, The image that views the addict as seeking to obtain the substance at any cost and by any method is followed. The addict usually has poor concentration and memory, and the addict has no problem in assaulting others. Then the addict deserves another opportunity to regain his wasted potential The sample members refused to consider the addict as a criminal and deserving of punishment. As for the means of prevention, the family should contain the addict and encourage him to quit, followed by cooperation with NGOs, strict measures in universities, and in the same rank, holding seminars to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs. Films and the media have a role in spreading the culture of abuse.
