The Relationship between Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and each of Self-Confidence and Social Orientation among the Sons of Martyrs in Lattakia City.
Abstract
This study aimed to know the relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and each of self-confidence and social orientation among a sample of the of martyrs' sons in Lattakia City and to know the effect of the variables of education stage and the residence at the levels of PTSD, self-confidence ,and social orientation. The study depended on descriptive methodology. This study used Davidson's Scale of PTSD, that is based on the diagnose of DSMIV and translated to Arabic by Abd Al-Aziz Thabet, Self-Confidence Scale; that is built by the researcher, and Social Orientation Scale; that is built by Abd El-Latif (2001). The sample contained of (118) teenagers of martyrs' sons; who were at the second stage of primary education and secondary stage; and whom did not past (12) months on the martyrdom of their fathers. The study was applied at the first term of (2016-2017). The results of the study showed that: - The percentage of the low level of PTSD for respondents was (19.49%), the proportion of the average level was (27.97%), and the proportion of the sever level was (52.24%). - The percentage of the low level of social orientation was (36.44%), the proportion of the average level reached to (38.98%), and the proportion of the high level was (22.03%). - The percentage of the low level of self-confidence was (30.51%);while the proportion of the average level was (41.53%), and the proportion of the high average level was (27.97%). - The levels of PTSD were significantly inversely correlated with self-confidence, social orientation. There were significantly statistical differences in PTSD towards to the variable of educational stage, while there were not significantly statistical differences in PTSD towards the variable of residence. - There were significantly statistical differences in social orientation towards the variables of: educational stage, residence, while there were not any significantly statistical differences in self-confidence towards the variable of educational stage; but there were significantly statistical differences in social orientation towards the variable of residence.
