Petrological Study of Oil Wells (4-5) Formations in Lattakia Sheet
Abstract
This study was conducted as a result of the emergence of oil in one of the dug logs of the construction columns within the Lattakia patch ring in the old al-Hal Market area. The phenomenon was primarily studied, and the data indicated that it was high-quality oil that leaked and migrated through the cracks and fault networks, then gathered under clay layers as traps and oil reservoirs of unknown location, and two exploratory wells (Latakia 4 and Latakia 5) were drilled at the sites of the emergence of oil to study layers and rock formations, in order to determine the locations of these reservoirs.
The research relied on a detailed petrological study of these layers based on the well reports obtained from the Syrian Oil Company and the available geological data represented by the rock cores that cut from the formations of the two wells. Where 14 samples were taken starting from the Haramon (Jurasic) formation at a depth of (1800-2000m). Up to the formation of the Cheranish (Mastricht) at a depth of (350 - 500 m) from the formations of both wells, through the study of the cores and the sections, hydrocarbon was observed within the cracks of the Cretaceous and the bobble of gas attached to the upper Cretaceous and Jurassic rocks. There are no covered rocks, and the permeability of the rocks is weak, not suitable for reservoirs.
