Abstract

 Background:

The aim of this study to examined some physicochemical parameters for some ground water samples (wells water) collected from four locations in Southern part of Basrah city

Materials and Methods:

Four stations selected for sampling Safwan, Barjesia, Al-Zubair and Khor Al-Zubair and analyzed for their determination of water quality parameters, PH, electric conductivity, turbidity, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, alkalinity, total hardness, hardness, temperature, chloride, sulphate, nitrate, nitrite, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and carbonate

Results:

the results shows the most highest  values of the main parameters recorded in Safwan the PH (7.9), Sulphate value was(2975.9) mg/L, Nitrite (6.4) , the Sodium (1921.9) mg/L, and the Potassium ( 150.3) mg/L , the Carbonate (280.6) mg/L similar the same value in Al-Zubair , also the Conductivity (14.3l),  the Chloride was the highest in Barjesia (3727.5) mg/L, with Calcium ( 1080) mg/L, Total Alkalinity (119560) mg/L and Total Hardness (34020) mg/L also  the Hardness as CaCo3 (13600) mg/L, and Total Dissolved Solids(11480) mg/L, Total Suspended Solids(61) mg/L,  in Al-Zubair the Nitrate recorded (72.0) mg/L ,and the Carbonate (280.6) mg/L, the mean of the Temperature for all stations was (24.2)°C and the Turbidity was clear for the four wells samples.

Conclusion:

Most of the results recorded in this study have high rates of pollutants for that this type of ground water is not suitable for human consumption, especially for drinking
