An Econometric Analytical Study of the Role of Maritime Transport in Syrian Foreign Trade during the Period 2011-2021

Abstract

The research aimed to study and analyze some productivity indicators in Syrian ports based on the data available in the Syrian statistical collections issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics and the official website of the Ministry of transport in the Syrian Arab Republic, which includes data on the number of ships in the ports of Latakia and Tartus, the number of outgoing and incoming containers, in addition to the amount of loaded and unloaded goods, the research also aimed to determine the the relationship between the amount of goods traded in the ports and the total foreign trade in Syria during the period 2011-2021, the study concluded that the total number of ships in the ports of Latakia and Tartus has decreased with an average annual growth rate of -7.53%, as Container traffic in Syrian ports decreased by an average annual growth rate of -7.33%, and the quantity of goods decreased by an average annual growth rate of -6.59%, and it was found that there is a direct and significant relationship between the amount of goods traded in the ports and the total foreign trade in Syria during the period 2011-2021.
